William T. Sherman (1820-91), General, USA (Ohio). Army of Tennessee commander, known for the “March to the Sea”.
Document Signed (DS), 1 page, 4to., 5/4/1864 for commutation of rations while on detached duty for Henry H. Taylor (Co. C, 45th Illinois Infantry, Awarded the Medal of Honor for action on 6/25/1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi, being the first to plant the Union colors upon the enemy’s works). Document also signed by Taylor as Sergt. Co. “C” 45th Ills. Inf.
Very Fine. Has three holes, customary present, for ribbon attachment.
